De Ateliers in Amsterdam is an independent artists’ institute led by artists. Artists are given the opportunity to work for a period of two years in a studio, with the support of a grant and the feedback of artists and critics who make studio visits weekly. Each spring an exhibition that marks the end of the second year participants’ residency is organised and a catalogue is produced. ‘Offspring’ 2015 carried the subtitle ‘Function Creep’ – a term that describes the ‘gradual widening of the use of a technology or system, beyond the purpose of which is was originally intended.’ Typography and main idea of the visual identity are based on the term ‘Function Creep’. Offspring 2015 was curated by Xander Karskens.
